Oral History and memories of Holy Defense Narrated by the Five Books

A more year was spent from distance between events of Saddam Hossein imposed war against Iran and us, and we met the commemoration of Sacred Defense Week in 2016. If we treat beginning of the war as the source, 36 years has spent and if it would be last of the war, 28 years has spent. Products and series that are the signs of the spent years and efforts in order to recording events of the war are books and libraries. On the occasion of this Sacred Defense Week, we brought you five books in a pack among the books that we have received a copy of them in office of Oral History of Iran Website, so thereby hangs a tale.

Biography of 10 indelible characters

According to Iran Oral History website, this series is collected by the group researching indelible figures; this research group was established in the spring of 2009 in Resistance Research & Study Center with the efforts of Office of Islamic Revolution Literature. The aim of such effort was to publish and disseminate the biography of prominent Iranian figures that are unknown in contemporary history of this country despite their efforts or no biography literature has been published presenting them.

Memoirs for seventy years

The narrator of the book speaks about the life of Shirazis family, fatwa for tobacco sanction, ‎studying in the seminary (religious school) of Najaf and Tehran, the high School of Sepahsalar, ‎legal science teaching, meeting with Imam Khomeini in Najaf and Paris, details of being ‎assassinated by Al-Furqan group on Tir 23th 1358 (July 1979), and hospitalization in the ‎hospitals of Iran and America, he have seen these events or other have told him. ‎

“Mehranjoun is the story of the passion of youth in a village to participate in combat in fronts during the Iraq imposed war against Iran. From behind school bench, they go to military training and from there to military operations. Some of them return and some are martyred. The book defines the efforts and experiences of these youth in the fronts by the story being told by the narrator who was one of the young soldiers at the time.

Mashhad as a religious metropolis, where welcomes thousands of pilgrims across the Islam world annually, has diverse identifiable characteristics that the lack of attention to each of them cause to ignore the urban history or forget some part of it. But in the past few years, the publication of some books with contemporary historical approach was result from consideration of the researchers of Mashhad. Certainly, the publication of the books and the spiritual heritage of Mashhad city, which is named as the capital of Islamic Culture by ISESCO in 2017, will increase expectations and cultural capacities of the city. A lot of people were deeply influenced by him. Attraction was one of his characteristics. He interested in fighting when he was fourteen, and experienced prison in the thirty-three years old, and prisoned for thirteen years. While he was working, he liked to effort in education. Education and fighting were being done together. He took his last test in a situation which he was pursued by SAVAK. He was in relationship with the party "Devotees of Islam" and tried to attend in weekly meetings of Mosque named Sheikh Ali at street. All of the mentioned points were just several features of martyr Hajj Mehdi Iraqi. He was president of the guild Fakhar. It and fighting against the Pahlavi regime were an excuse to publish the book "Portrait of a Man in Revolution"

What was happening in cities during revolution? How involved were people in the resistance against Pahlavi regime? How was the situation in scientific-cultural institutions? We seek the answers to these questions by listening to the stories and memories of different people. Dr. Mohammadreza Fartukzadeh offers some information in his book “Ardor” on the events leading to the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Shiraz and Tehran. Since he was a student at the time, his stories involve students’ resistance against Pahlavi regime.

When Seyyed Ali Akbar Abutorabi changed the lifestyle of captives

August 17, 1990; there was whirl in the border of Iran and Iraq; one of the first days of exchange of Iranian and Iraqi war captives. That day, one hostage who was freed from Iraqi camps and tasted freedom was a young man by the name of Gholam Abbass Mohammad Hassani. A young man with less than three decades of age who had spent eight years of his youth in prisons of Iraq as a hostage. When Gholam Abbass was taken he wasn’t even 20. Now, that young man is middle aged and is recounting his memories of his days as war hostage; memories that are compiled by the efforts of Seyyed Hossein Yahyavi and published by Ravayat Fath Publication.

Oral history of freed POWs and memoirs of captivity as narrated by four books

16th of August every year is marked as a special day in the history of the eight-year Iraqi imposed war against Iran. On this day in 1990, the Iranian combatants who had been taken as captives came back to Iran. With hands free of arms but with hearts armed with faith and resistance, they preserved the privacy of their own defense even more than the war years. One way of respecting their resistance and remembering the sweet moments of freedom is to refer to their memoirs. The website of Iranian Oral History has reviewed four books about the account of freed POWs in order to commemorate that special day in 26 years ago.

Kak-e Khak

The book “Kak-e Khak” is the narration of Mohammad Reza Ahmadi (Haj Habib), a commander in Kurdistan fronts. It has been published by Sarv-e Sorkh Publications in 500 copies in spring of 1400 (2022) and in 574 pages. Fatemeh Ghanbari has edited the book and the interview was conducted with the cooperation of Hossein Zahmatkesh.

Is oral history the words of people who have not been seen?

Some are of the view that oral history is useful because it is the words of people who have not been seen. It is meant by people who have not been seen, those who have not had any title or position. If we look at oral history from this point of view, it will be objected why the oral memories of famous people such as revolutionary leaders or war commanders are compiled.
