Narrative of Mulla Saleh Qari, Translator of Iranian Captives

Real Beginning of Captivity, Saleh’s Torture

As I found out later, their work routine was such that every forty days, as soon as new captives arrived, a group from the Farsi section of Iraqi Radio and Television came and interviewed them. It was as if forty days had passed and the six of us, who were new arrivals, had to prepare for the interview. It was the morning of the second day. Worried about what might happen to us, ...

Identifying talented people and how to recruit in Ahvaz

In the academic year 50-51 (1971-1972), I felt that I should identify the new students who came to the industrial high school during this period, and attract religious and talented people who have the motivation to fight. In my investigations, I found Fereydoun Mortezaee and Gholamreza Qomeishi and two or three other people. I said to Mr. Mortezaee who came to the industrial high school from the town of Omidiyeh: "Where do you want to rent a house?"

After Years of Captivity

Memoirs of Manijeh Lashkari

It was the month of Muharram of 1374 (June 1995). When I woke up on the day of Ashura, I saw that Ali was not at home. He had said that he would go to the Heyat (mourning group). I was walking inside the house without any motivation. I went and opened the fridge, poured a glass of milk, and drank half of it. I left the glass on the cabinet, went to the closet and got dressed.

An Excerpt of Manijeh Lashkari Memories

Eight years had been passed; eight years with no news and wait. Air Force told: “Hossein Lashkari is alive.” Foundation of Martyrs told: “it’s fifty-fifty,” because his name was not still in ICRC list. I was sure he was alive but waiting and loneness bothered me. Foundation of Martyrs, after four years of ignorance, informed wives of those who were missing in action that they can marry.

Hunger Strike in Vatican, Paris in Support for Imam Khomeini

In protest against the restrictions imposed on the Imam by the Iraqi Baathist regime, [1356 (1976)], the Islamic associations of the students in Europe took several actions. Among these activities, two hunger strikes were organized in the Vatican and Saint Mary Church in Paris. Although we knew that they do not allow political activities in the Vatican, it was planned in such a way that the guys would enter there dispersedly and ...

A Memory of Mersad Operation

The last trip of our front, after we were stationed in Tehran, was the Mersad operation. At that time, we were teaching at the university when they suddenly informed us of the start of the Mersad operation. Imam Khomeini (PBUH) ordered to go and stop the hypocrites. Because the hypocrites had come as far as Islamabad. The news that reached us, the students of the university, the commanders and professors, along with the staff of Imam Hossein (PBUH) University and the Faculty of Command and Staff set out.

How to Distribute Leaflets

In the city of Qain, I used to write notices and make stencils of the Imams leaflets that arrived and distribute them with the cooperation of one of my comrades. That is, if he raped two people, the case would be exposed. We insisted on no more than two people. In the years before 1978, it was really difficult to prepare and distribute the leaflets. The way we implemented it was great, and that was by mailing letters.

A Cut from Memoirs of Gholamali Mehraban Jahromi

Acceptance of UN Resolution and End of War

In Tir of 1367 (July 1988), I had been sitting with the guys of the operational plan including Ahmad Rabiee, Shahriar Chahar Setad, Faramarz Ebrahimi, and Mahmoud Rahmanian in Abadan frontline. After the class, we suddenly saw that the 14 oclock news announced that the Imam accepted the resolution. Accepting the resolution was very painful for us. Everyone had been sitting in front of the TV and crying as if a Zaker or eulogist was reciting the zekr of calamity.

Yazd, 1978

On the day of Tasua (the 9th day of Muharram month), we set off for Yazd. We were informed that everyone from the surrounding cities is going to come to Yazd. Together with the people of Zarch, we started mourning in black clothes and on foot. The chants of "O people of shrine and standard-bearer did not come, standard-bearer did not come, the scholar did not come" were mixed with slogans against the king and could be heard from the protesting peoples throats.

Memoirs of Javad Sheikhzadeh, Inspector of the Medical Board of the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization

About the [Mina] stampede, some people in official and unofficial forums said that chemical gas was fired in the area, which is the reason for the skin of the victims being torn off and the injured being suffocated. I want to know where those who said these words were on the day of the stampede. When the bodies were lying on top of each other, the heat from the suns rays absorbed the dark skin of the Africans ...

The Arab People Committee

Another event that happened in Khuzestan Province and I followed up was the Arab People Committee. One day, we were informed that the Arabs had set up a committee special for themselves. At that time, I had less information about the Arab People , but knew well that dividing the people into Arab and non-Arab was a harmful measure.

Is oral history the words of people who have not been seen?

Some are of the view that oral history is useful because it is the words of people who have not been seen. It is meant by people who have not been seen, those who have not had any title or position. If we look at oral history from this point of view, it will be objected why the oral memories of famous people such as revolutionary leaders or war commanders are compiled.
