“Ukhshamalar” an elegiac poetry collection produced by Azerbaijan mothers for their sons who have been martyred during the eight-year Iran-Iraq war, has been unveiled in Ardabil, the capital city of Ardabil Province.

“Zaky-u-llah Khoshbakht” director general of the Foundation for Preservation of Monuments and Promulgation of Sacred Defense Values  said at the unveiling ceremony of the oral history collection that the book contains elegies recited by mothers of Azerbaijan martyrs and elegiac poetries lamenting the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) on Ashura, reports Iranian Students'  News Agency, ISNA.

Khosbakht added that the book, featuring an eloquent style, is a rich oral history collection maintained by the women in Iran’s Azerbaijan used to honor martyrs.

Ukhshamalar has been published in two volumes, with the second volume, sold separately, offering an errata appendix.

Khoshbakht said about the musical content of the elegies that since the original, epic and local music and melodies associated with the elegies can not be ignored, “Amin Rasooli” has composed and presented the epic music.

He said this is the first time a collection of local melodies are produced in the province.

Ukhshamalar, compiled by “Ammar Ahmadi” was available for sale in the 8th book fair of Ardabil.

The book fair was held in the permanent venue of Ardabil international fairs from 23rd to 29th of August 2012.
