Legislature OKs funds for Waterloo museum
23 May 2012
WATERLOO, Iowa - The Iowa Legislature has approved $279,450 for Waterloo's Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum to conduct and record "oral history" interviews of military veterans returning from current conflicts.
"This will allow us to continue the popular and successful program at Waterloo's veterans museum that collects, preserves and interprets the military service of Iowans," said State Sen. Jeff Danielson, vice-chair of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee. "We can now start collecting stories from the newest generation of Iowa veterans, the citizen soldiers who served in Iraq and Afghanistan."
The museum already has collected 1,200 video oral histories with veterans of previous conflicts, to add to the museum's exhibits and educational programs.
The funding had bipartisan local support in both chambers. State Rep. Bob Kressig, D-Cedar Falls, offered an amendment on the House side to get the funding approved. State Rep. Walt Rogers, R-Cedar Falls, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, ultimately voted for the funding.
Grout executive director Billie Bailey said, "We are pleased and appreciative that the Legislature has stepped forward to support this important project. Finalizing details for this project will begin immediately."

Hajj Pilgrimage
I went on a Hajj pilgrimage in the early 1340s (1960s). At that time, few people from the army, gendarmerie and police went on a pilgrimage to the holy Mashhad and holy shrines in Iraq. Spring came to the camp without bringing freshness and the first days of New Year began in this camp. We were unaware of the plans that old friends had in this camp when Eid (New Year) came.
