"Oral History of the Islamic Revolution in Babol with the Approach of Shiite History" is the title of a thesis written by Iraj Khodabakhshi, a student at the Faculty of Humanities, Payame Noor University, South Tehran Branch, for a master's degree under the guidance of Dr. Houshang Khosrobeigi and in consultation with Dr. Alireza Sufi in 2013.

The present research is a study in Shiite history and in relation to how the events related to the Islamic Revolution and its victory were formed (1963-1978) and also studying the local history (Babol) focusing on oral history and using its tools to answer the questions of this research.

In this thesis, the researcher intends to answer the following three questions:

1- What were the most important grounds for the formation of the Islamic Revolution in Babol and its predicted factors?

2- What were the most important social groups influencing the process of the Islamic Revolution in Babol?

3- What are the accelerating factors in the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Babol?

Identifying the most important grounds of the formation of the Islamic Revolution in Babol and evaluating the role of social groups in the city in the victory of the Islamic Revolution are one of the most important goals of this study. This research is based on interviewing with the selected of three influential groups in the victory process of the Islamic Revolution, namely clerics, businessmen and cultural figures.

This study examines the various aspects of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Babol, including historical, geographical, religious, cultural, social and political contexts and movements based on each of them, in order to give a clear picture of the victory process of the Islamic Revolution in Babol and explain the role of important and influential strata. This research has been organized in seven chapters as follows: In the first chapter, which is called the research literature, is a general acquaintance with the topics and goals and hypotheses and the method of conducting the research and abstract. In the second chapter, the historical background and geographical location, cultural and religious status of the area under study have been explored. In the third chapter, the influence of seminaries and religious schools of Babol in the process of the Islamic Revolution and the role of clerics in the occurrence of the Islamic Revolution in this city have been studied. In the fourth and fifth chapters, while getting acquainted with the Babolian businessmen community and its important markets, as well as the statistical situation of cultural figures and their characteristics, the role of each of them during the victory of the Islamic Revolution has been discussed. In the sixth chapter, the significant events of the Islamic Revolution from 1963 to 1977 and since 1978 up to the victory of the Islamic Revolution have been studied; in the seventh chapter, the documents related to the research, which have been referred to in the content, have been collected.

The results of this study show that historical and religious features, the presence of prominent clerics and seminary centers in Babol, the expansion of religious gatherings and meetings, the active presence of various social groups in the Islamic Revolution, and the existence of active religious boards were effective factors in accelerating the victory of the Islamic revolution at Babol.

The researcher has concluded that the unique location of Babol in northern Iran in terms of the presence of prominent Shiite scholars, such as Saeid al-Ulama and the late Ayatollah Ashrafi and the late Sheikh Kabir due to the existence of numerous seminaries and scientific centers, and also religious background of the people in following the Shiite clergy - A clear example of that is the struggle against the Baha'i sect in obedience to the ruling of Ayatollah Saeed Al-Ulama - are of the historical backgrounds of this city. In fact, the Shiite clergy has played a pivotal and unique role in the formation and growing trend of the Islamic Revolution.

Morteza Tavakoli Narrates Student Activities

I am from Isfahan, born in 1336 (1957). I entered Mashhad University with a bag of fiery feelings and a desire for rights and freedom. Less than three months into the academic year, I was arrested in Azar 1355 (November 1976), or perhaps in 1354 (1975). I was detained for about 35 days. The reason for my arrest was that we gathered like-minded students in the Faculty of Literature on 16th of Azar ...

A narration from the event of 17th of Shahrivar

Early on the morning of Friday, 17th of Shahrivar 1357 (September 17, 1978), I found myself in an area I was familiar with, unaware of the gathering that would form there and the intense reaction it would provoke. I had anticipated a march similar to previous days, so I ventured onto the street with a tape recorder I had brought back from my recent trip abroad.

A Review of the Book “Brothers of the Castle of the Forgetful”: Memoirs of Taher Asadollahi

"In the morning, a white-haired, thin captain who looked to be twenty-five or six years old came after counting and having breakfast, walked in front of everyone, holding his waist, and said, "From tomorrow on, when you sit down and get up, you will say, 'Death to Khomeini,' otherwise I will bring disaster upon you, so that you will wish for death."

Tabas Fog

Ebham-e Tabas: Ramzgoshayi az ja’beh siah-e tahajom nezami Amrika (Tabas Fog: Decoding the Black Box of the U.S. Military Invasion) is the title of a recently published book by Shadab Asgari. After the Islamic Revolution, on November 4, 1979, students seized the US embassy in Tehran and a number of US diplomats were imprisoned. The US army carried out “Tabas Operation” or “Eagle’s Claw” in Iran on April 24, 1980, ostensibly to free these diplomats, but it failed.
