Commemoration ceremony held for Ayatollah Beheshti

According to IBNA correspondent, the commemoration ceremony of the Martyr Ayatollah Mohammad Hosseini Beheshti in the auditorium of Iran’s Association of Cultural Works and Figures with Ali Jannati (PhD), Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Hojat ul-Eslam Hadi Khamenei, Head of the Center for Islamic History, Mahdi Mohaghegh (PhD), Hojat ul-Eslam Seyyed Mahmoud Doaei, director of Ettela’at Newspaper, Seyyed Alireza Beheshti, a university instructor in Tarbiat Modarres University, bibliographer and manuscript expert, as well as other cultural figures in attendance.
At this event Mohaghegh stated: “A German orientalist once said that Mullah (Ayatollah) Beheshti did not know a word of German when he arrived in Germany, but now he speaks the language and not only speaks the language, he continued, but gives lectures on philosophical and theological issues in German.
Referring to the ideas of other religions about Islam, Mohaghegh said: “Martyr Beheshti had well-understood the need for learning foreign languages. Later, when he went to Germany and became the manager of Hamburg Mosque, he learned German despite the fact that it is a difficult language.”
He further continued: “At the time Ayatollah Beheshti was residing in Hamburg, I participated in an international congress in Montpellier, France, in which many scholars of Islam and orientalists, including Spuler, had taken part. Spuler is the author of ‘History of the Mongols’ and taught Islamic Studies in Hamburg. His works are translated into Persian. This orientalist asked me in the Congress if I knew Mullah Beheshti. I told him that I knew him very well and he was a friend of mine and a fellow classmate. He said: “When Beheshti arrived in Germany, he didn’t know a word in German, but now he preaches philosophy and theology in this language.”
