  • "The memory of martyrs’ mothers is like a golden mine where needs to be explored." Zeinab Erfanian, the author the Doorway of This House is Kissable said: "I tried to preserve aspects such as being documented and referenced in this book, so that it could be called oral history."
  • Pointing to the bitterness exists in the interviews of the oral history group in Hozeh Honari of Gilan during Covid-19 pandemic, the Cultural Assistant of Hozeh Honari in Gilan said: "The oral history group of Hozeh Honari of Gilan has recorded and compiled oral memorials of a number of medical staff and their families involved in Corona, but there is no rush in publishing them." Considering oral history as one of the characteristics of revolution art, he continued: "Twenty books in the field of revolution and Gilan’s well-know people will be unveiled in Revolution Art Week."
  • The CEO of Lenjan Heritage Preservation Association said: "Young people and those interested in preserving the ancient heritage of Lenjan are looking to collect the customs, traditions and ancient rituals of this city in the form of oral history and record them in the list of the intangible cultural heritage of the country. In this regard, two intangible heritages, ‘Shanbe Gardesh[1]’ and ‘Shagh Shaghouzani[2]’, are nationally registered."
  • Mir Abedin Kaboli - doyen archaeologist and former director general of the National Museum of Iran - died on Thursday, April 1, 2021 due to kidney failure in his hometown, Babol. He knew the oral history of archeology well and was considered a treasure trove of archeological secrets of contemporary Iran.
  • "Recording the memories of the martyrs and the oral history of the warriors is one of the important and effective activities to prevent manipulation and forgetting the facts of the Holy Defense." Director General for preserving and publishing holy defense works and values of Golestan proclaimed.
  • Emphasizing on paying more attention to the artworks about self-sacrificing and martyrdom, cultural and educational assistant of the Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans said: "Those artworks last which plays a role and be effective in the target community. The oral history of the martyrs' parents should be recorded, and this is a lasting work, as the Supreme Leader emphasized."
  • The director of the Department of Sports Oral history and the secretary of its Policy Council says: The oral history of sports in Iran is the still existing part of it, which was unprecedented in the country before.
  • In the ceremony commemorating the memory of General Sayyad Shirazi, the commander of the Naval Army, district 1, stated: "It is everyone's duty to record the oral history of the holy defense period."
  • In the "Art of the Islamic Revolution" illustrating workshop, which was held on the occasion of the Islamic Revolution Art Week, some parts of books in the field of oral history compiled in the Qom Hozeh Honari were illustrated by the province's illustrators.
  • In order to carry out the oral history project of Iranian sports in the field of sports for the disabled and the Olympic movement, interviews were conducted with Mohammad Jafar Bidar and Sima Limouchi, as well as the pioneers Hossein Sarkheil and Abbas Baghestani.
  • Seyyed Hossein Hassanzadeh stated in an interview: “One of the measures taken in the recording the documents of the holy defense is to collect documents of the presence of Islamic fighters in the form of military, civilian, first responder, etc. groups on the front.” He added: “In this regard, necessary actions have been taken to record the oral history of Islamic warriors and a number of books have been published.”
  • The virtual workshop of "Documentation of Experiences in the Production Process" was held by Raha al-Sadat Mousavi, author of The Moon and Parvin. Mousavi described the preservation of historical values (text) and the use of literary devices and skills as the art of writing and added: “Mere historical texts are boring for the audience in the field of oral history, and literary works lack historical originality under the pretext of attractiveness; for this reason, stylistic devices should be used in historical texts.”
  • “Last year, for the first time in the country,” the head of The organization of Libraries, Museums and Documents Center Of Astane Quds Razavi stated, “in collaboration with Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, a project on documentation and recording the oral history of Covid-19 pandemic was launched and interviews with the medical staff and families of health martyrs were recorded, and this project will continue this year.”
  • The Story of Royan, the oral history of Saeid Kazemi Ashtiani's actions in Royan Research Institute was published for the second time by Rahyar Publications. This book contains unpublished memoirs about the process of forming a research institute where, for the first time in Iran, succeeded in treating infertility and cell therapy and simulation.

 


[1].  On the first Saturday of the year, people take a one-day short trip to nature and even eat their lunch in the plains and forests and somehow reconcile with nature and believe that by doing so a good year awaits them.

[2].  The ceremony of ‘Shagh Shagouzani’ in Zarrinshahr is held by the Turk-speakers of this city at noon of Ashura Day (the tenth day of Muharram). In a special order and rhythm, a group of people knock circular wooden pieces together and shouts ‘O’ Hussein’.

An Exceptional Haft‑Seen Table

I wanted to celebrate the new year with my family. Together with two relief workers I boarded buses designated for transporting the wounded to Choubideh and received our mission orders. We waited for a helicopter to take us to Bandar Imam Khomeini. I was stationed near the helicopter’s touchdown zone and was slight in build. As the helicopter was about to land, I could not steady myself; the breeze generated by the rotor blades lifted me off the ground.

Spring under the shadow of war

Composing the Spring special for the new year in the past years was mostly along with hope, nature’s rebirth and the promise of renewal of life. Spring has always been a reminder for returning of life and peace after the Winters’ cold. This year though, another atmosphere has settled over our land in the last days of Esfand (March).
