'Bukhara’ cherishes the memory of Shahriar Adl

IBNA- The Persian Culture and Art Magazine Bukhara dedicated its 107th issue to the memory of the outstanding Iranologist and archeologist, the late Shahriar Adl who passed away on June 21.
According to IBNA correspondent quoting from the Public Relations Office of Iran's Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization, in the part “In Memory of Shahriar Adl”, Bukhara magazine pays tribute to this outstanding Iranologist in several notes and articles written by the Iranian and foreign archeologists and scholars.
“Selected Bibliography Articles of Dr. Shahriar Adl” written by Mehrdad Malekzadeh, “Deltangi’ (Nostalgia)” by Maryam Peer (Adl); “I No Longer Live in the Absence of Iran” by Kamran Adl; “When Life Comes to the End …” by Ali Dehbashi; “The Vow of Unity and Avoiding Separation” by Firouz Bagherzadeh and Pieces of Archeology (No 12), by Shahram Zareiyeh are published.
Shahriar Adl, the renowned Iranologist and expert on archeology and art history of the Islamic era of Iran, director of the leading scientific research center of France and a member of the editorial board of the Journal ‘Studia Iranica’ which has been published in France since the early 70s, died in France at the age of 71.
The funeral procession of this leading archeologist was conducted in a grand ceremony in front of the National Museum and the Research Institute of Iran’s Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization and he was buried in the Celebrities Area of Behesht-e Zahra cemetery in Tehran.
The parental ancestors of Shahriar Adl were from Tabriz. He spent his school years in Tehran and continued his studies in France from autumn 1959.
In Paris, he entered the Higher Institute of Historical Studies at Sorbonne. At the same time, he studied General History, Art, Oriental Archeology, and History of Art of the Islamic Era at École du Louvre and then continued at the School of Architecture, l’ecole des Beaux Arts, in Paris.
He then continued with his Ph.D. and did his thesis on the ‘Conquest of Homayoun’ which dealt with the history of the wars of Shah Abbas in the year 1007/1598 in Khorasan province and the conquest of Herat.
Adl’s research became more professional with his arrival and membership in the Centre Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) [or National Center for Scientific Research], France. At this Center, he focused his studies on Iran, Afghanistan and Central Asia and was promoted to director emeritus of research at the Center.
