StoryCorps, the oral history project that travels the country recording interviews with ordinary people, will make a three-week stop in Charleston late this month, giving locals the chance to step into their Airstream trailer mobile recording booth to record an interview with a friend or loved one. The idea behind StoryCorps is to allow people to share, record, and preserve the stories of their lives — all interviews are archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, and participants leave their recording session with a CD copy of their interview.

NPR fans might know StoryCorps from their short broadcasts, which air during Morning Edition. If you've ever found yourself driving down the road wiping away tears as the soft, soothing voices of public radio play in the background, chances are you just heard a StoryCorps interview. The format allows people to open up to each other in ways that don't usually happen in regular everyday conversation.

Reservations are required, so if there's someone in your life that you'd like to interview — a grandparent, best friend, teacher, spouse, or anyone else whose stories you want to hear — make sure to reserve your time slot when the reservations open on Oct. 11.
